How much sex should you be having?

Basic instinct (1992) movie scene

Are you having enough sex? You might have wondered if you should up your bedroom activity after reading about other couples' resolutions to have sex every day or about all the health benefits of getting horizontal.
In what might be welcome news for everyone exhausted from work and frazzled from kids, research suggests you don't have to get down every day to reap the rewards of sex, at least in terms of happiness and relationship closeness.
recent study found that, although married people or people in committed relationships who had more sex tended to report feeling happier, the benefit leveled off at a sexual frequency of once a week. Those who said they did the deed four or more times a week did not report feeling any happier than those who had trysts only weekly.
"I do think couples can end up feeling pressure to try to engage in sex as frequently as possible," said Amy Muise, a postdoctoral researcher studying sexual relationships at Dalhousie University in Canada. Once a week "is maybe a more realistic goal to set than thinking you have to have sex everyday and that feels overwhelming and you avoid it," said Muise, who is lead author of the study, which was published in November in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science.
The study found that sex could boost happiness because it makes people feel more satisfied in their relationship, based on survey data from two separate cohorts, including 2,400 married couples in the U.S. National Survey of Families and Households.
"For people in relationships, their romantic relationship quality is one of the biggest predictors of their overall happiness," Muise said. "Having sex more than once a week might not be enhancing that (relationship connection), although it is not bad."
However, there are a couple of rubs with this research, Muise said. One is that it is not clear which came first, sex or happiness. It may be that people who have sex once a week or more were happier in their relationship and life to begin with, and not that the sex helped make them happy. Or both may be true: Sex enhances happiness and happiness enhances sex.
The other catch is that, although a weekly romp might be just what some people need, it might be too much or too little for others. "Certainly there are couples for whom having sex less frequently will be fine for their happiness, and there are couples who will get increases in happiness if they have sex more than once a week," Muise said.

What's the right number for you?

"One of the best effects of an article like this (by Muise and her colleagues) is that it opens up conversations with couples" about their sex life, said Vanessa Marin, a sex therapist based in Berlin. For some couples, the question of how often they should have sex might not have come up, which could be a sign they feel sufficiently close and satisfied -- or that they are just too busy or disconnected to think about it.
"Most couples want to be having more sex and I think this is really a result of how busy and full most of our lives are," Marin said.
Marin avoids prescribing an amount of sex that couples should have, because every couple is different, and instead recommends couples test it out for themselves. "I'm a big fan of having clients experiment, like, one month try to have sex twice a week and see how that goes, or once a week, try to play around with it," Marin said.
As for those lucky couples that are content with how often they get busy under the sheets, one study suggests they may not want to change a thing. Researchers asked couples that were having sex about six times a month to double down on getting down. Couples that doubled their sexual frequency were in worse moods and enjoyed sex less at the end of three months than couples who had stuck to their usual level of bedroom activity.
"Being told you should do something always makes it less fun," said George Loewenstein, a professor of economics and psychology at Carnegie Mellon University and lead author of the study. That is another reason Marin does not make recommendations to couples about sexual frequency -- for fear they could worry they are not living up to expectations and lose their mojo.
However, there's a far bigger relationship problem than couples worrying they aren't having quite enough sex -- "couples that have pretty much stopped having sex," Loewenstein said. For these couples, "I think once a week is a good final goal. ... It is almost like a natural constant to do it once a week," he said.
Even if these abstinent couples want to be having more sex, they may lack the desire for their partner. These couples can try conventional strategies, such as scheduling more quality time together or trying a change in scenery. "What couple has not had the experience that you go to a hotel in a new location in a new environment and the person you're with seems different, and different is good when it comes to sex," Loewenstein said.
But if these tricks aren't enough, couples may have to appeal to their rational rather than lustful side and tell themselves to just do it. "These couples might be surprised how enjoyable it would be if they restarted," Loewenstein said.

    Should you schedule your sex?

It might sound like the least romantic thing in the world to pencil in sexy time with your partner. But if you and your partner are game to try, there is no reason not to make a sex schedule.
"For some couples, scheduling sex works really well, it gives them something to look forward to, they like the anticipation, they like feeling prioritized," Marin said. "Then other couples (say) scheduling sex feels horrible to them, like sex is transactional and just another item on their to-do list."
Again, Marin recommends couples experiment with scheduling sex to see if it helps them, as long as neither is opposed to it.
A good idea for all couples, whether they like the idea of scheduling sex, is to plan for quality time together -- just the two of them. Ideally, this would be about 20 minutes a day with the TV off and cell phones away, but for extra busy couples, it can help to reserve just five minutes a day for a tete-a-tete, Marin said. This time is also the "container for sex," the time and privacy when sex can be initiated, but you don't have to feel pressure about it, she added.
Although scheduling sex can help couples that want to be having sex but just can't find the time, it can make things worse for some. "If there are relationship issues or psychological issues such as stress or anxiety, then scheduling sex might just add to the pressure," said Acacia Parks, associate professor of psychology at Hiram College.

As for when to schedule the sex, the best time is probably the time when you are least likely to be pulled away by life's obligations. One of the perks of rise-and-shine sex is that testosterone levels are highest in the morning, and this hormone drives sexual desire. On the other hand, tuck-you-in sex could help lull you to sleep, as hormones released during orgasm could help you relax and feel tired.
According to Muise, the participants in her research typically reported having sex at night before going to sleep, which is not that surprising. But it has to work for both parties. "This is another point of negotiation between partners," Muise said. "One of them is just too exhausted. That might be something to play around with, is there a time on the weekend that we could try instead."

Inside Blue Ivy's Magical and Flowery Fairy-Themed 4th Birthday Party

It was a birthday party fit for a fairy princess.
In celebration of Blue Ivy Carter's fourth birthday, Beyoncé and Jay Z's famous daughter enjoyed a magic day surrounded by flowers and fairies.
As depicted in photos shared on the songstress' website, guests could enjoy the festivities from the comfort of colorful lounge sofas, inside cozy tents or at a dinner table dressed with quirky mismatched chairs adorned with butterfly wings.

Surrounding the soirée, greenery and floral arrangements hung overhead as well as pastel paper flower pom-poms.
Racks of children's costumes could be spotted nestled in the back of the room—a sure sign of plenty of dress-up games to come.

The guest of honor looked picture perfect in a powder pink dress with a tulle skirt, white tights and Converse sneakers. However, no birthday bash would be complete without a costume change.
She was later photographed preparing to shoot a bow and arrow in a fuchsia party dress adorned with a colorful butterfly print. As Blue clearly knows, no fairy princess is fully outfitted without a pair of butterfly wings and a sparkling tiara.

The fest was officially in full swing when adult fairy princesses arrived to the party to celebrate with the birthday girl.

Kim Kardashian reveals the ‘craziest place’ she has ever Made Love

Just a few hours after her sister Khloe blogged about having S3 X:’ for the very first time at age 15, Kim Kardashian decided to talk about love and S3X:’ during a Q&A on her website’s live stream.
When asked during the live interview if she was a member of the mile high club, a common slang for those who have had S3Xual intercourse on a flight, she simply replied: ‘Am I? Yeah.’
But she went on to stress that she’d only ever do the deed on a private jet and not a public flight, and never on a short distance journey.
‘But like the private,’ she added. ‘I don’t think like a public plane…It would have to be an international flight. It was an international, night flight when no one’s like around.’
The wife of rapper Kanye West, then insisted that an aeroplane isn’t the craziest place she has ever had S3X:’.
‘Like a public movie theatre, yeah,’ The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star said to her assistant Steph who was reading out all the messages.
But she refused to reveal if she shared such moments with her husband and rapper Kanye West.

Odell Beckham Jr. Has Been Living In Drake's Mansion

Odell Beckham Jr. has been keeping Drake company while he finishes "Views from the 6."

Those who follow either Odell Beckham Jr. and Drake on Instagram will know that the two clean-cut gentleman -- with a similar affinity for workout-mode selfies -- are good friends. They both played in the celebrity softball game at last year's Houston Appreciation Weekend, curated by Drake, and that was "the start of a friendship that'll carry through a lifetime," said Beckham in a one-on-one conversation with UFC star Ronda Rousey put together by Draft Kings
Also during the interview, which took place during SXSW, Beckham revealed that he had been living at Drake's house to provide the OVO rapper company while he finished up his long-awaited fourth album, Views from the 6. "I'm just there working out," said Beckham (visual proof can be seen below). "He needs to chill out with that house he has out there. There's just too much going on," the Giants wide receiver told Rousey.

From Beckham's comments, it's hard to tell which of Drake's residences he's talking about, though one would think -- considering the album title -- Drake would be situated somewhere nearby the 6. Then again, Beckham's workout pic doesn't look like Toronto usually does around this time of year.
Views is set for release some time this month, and fans are on their toes awaiting the surprise drop at any moment. Earlier today, Pitchfork received a report suggesting that the album will likely arrive toward the end of the month. It's unclear if Beckham will be shacking up at Drizzy's until then, but from now on, fans are gonna be hounding him for the inside scoop on the year's most anticipated album.

Nicki Minaj: "I Don't Even Want To Say I'm In A Relationship"

Nicki Minaj talks engagement ring, relationship status with Meek Mill on "The Ellen Show."

Nicki Minaj is not one for labels.
In an interview with Ellen Degeneres, Minaj stated that she doesn't want to call her relationship with Meek Mill a "relationship."
“You know, I don’t know," she told Ellen. "We’re still figuring each other out. And in fact, I don’t even want to say that I’m in a relationship anymore, because I think when people hear that, they go to like the mean place.
“You know, I used to be secretive," she continued. "You guys asked me about that before on my pre-interview. I used to say, ‘I’m not in a relationship,’ even though I was in a 12-year relationship. Now I feel like just going back to that and saying, ‘You know what? I’m single.”
The topic arose after Ellen asked Minaj about her "engagement ring" and showed an image of it on the screen. “That’s not my engagement ring though," Minaj responded, "[Meek] said that that’s my second ring and that if I get a third ring that that would be the engagement ring,”
Minaj contextualized her view on relationship labels by telling a story of what happened when she didn't post her Valentine's Day gift to Instagram.
“People said, ‘They’re not together.’ We were getting anonymous messages saying, ‘Yeah, she wasn’t with him [Meek] and she was crying all day.’ Just putting up all these things. Meanwhile, we were really in bed all day on Valentine’s Day. Like, seriously! We were in bed all day and then I got up and opened these three amazing gifts, and then I went back to bed. Then I read this story that we weren’t together on Valentine’s Day and it just made me realize that no matter how great your life is, you can’t even impress people. You just have to do you and make yourself happy and forget about trying to get everyone’s approval. It’s better just to keep those things sacred. So, now, I don’t really care to say ‘I’m in a relationship’ or ‘I’m engaged’ or whatever. There’s a boy that likes me. That’s all.
“[Meek] and I are just two souls right now passing through the universe, and I don’t know what’s going to happen. I just have learned over the years to just let things be and come and go as they are going to come and go.”

    Before she was Gaga

    By Breeanna Hare, CNN
A 19-year-old soon-to-be star, then known simply as Stefani Germanotta, poses for a photo at her parents' place in New York City. Although photographer Malgorzata Saniewska didn't know it at the time, it would be one of the first photo shoots of the pop star Lady Gaga.
A 19 year-old soon to be star, then known simply as Stefani Germanotta, poses for a photo at her parents’ place in New York city. Although photographer Malgorzata Saniewska didn’t know it at the time, it would be one of the first photo shoots of the pop star lady Gaga.

    • Malgorzata Saniewska worked in a New York restaurant with the future Lady Gaga
    • The musician was just 19 when Saniewska photographed her in 2005
Editor's note: This story was originally published on February 24, 2012.
(CNN)We've come to know her as Lady Gaga, but before the world tours, "The Fame" or even the dress made of meat, photographer Malgorzata Saniewskaknew her simply as her restaurant co-worker, Stefani Germanotta.
In the summer of 2005, Saniewska happened to be tending bar at the same West Village restaurant where the 19-year-old soon-to-be star worked as a waitress.
Just 24 at the time, Saniewska had moved from her native Poland to the United States two years prior with dreams of becoming a photographer.
But to support herself, "I started working as a bartender," she recalled. "It was definitely a money thing. I did want to go to school, but I didn't do research on photography, my focus was to make better money."
Keeping an eye on her bank account is what drove Saniewska to study accounting, leaving photography to become an amateur pursuit for a while.
      Photographer Malgorzata Saniewska
She went from taking landscape photos of New York City to setting up her own shoots, with Gaga being among some of her first ones.
"We were colleagues, we didn't hang out really heavily, but she's the nicest girl ever. ... She's down-to-earth," Saniewska said. "At that time, she gave me a CD of her first single, and I listened to it and I was really impressed. And she's a beautiful girl. Based on her looks and her personality I thought (a photo shoot) would be great fun."
Back then, Gaga "played piano and sang. This 19-year-old girl, she was really talented. She didn't talk about it a lot, (but) she did say that she studied music. ... I cannot even explain to you what she sounds like with just a piano, then or now," Saniewska said. "I offered her the photo shoot, and she said yes right away."
Gaga had the perfect location in mind: Her parents' place on the Upper East Side.
The two young women hopped on a train and headed over there, and set to work creating what Saniewska says became Lady Gaga's first photo shoot, although Saniewska didn't know that at the time.
"The house was empty, it was just the two of us," Saniewska said. "I knew she was a singer, so our focus was her and her very first piano. We just hung out in her parents' living room, and the piano was right by the window."

"She's a good model, obviously," Saniewska added with a laugh.
Armed with just her first point-and-shoot camera, Saniewska let the intimate shoot unfold organically.
      "We had no plan."
"We basically walked into her house, she did hair and makeup, picked out the clothes and we started," she recalled. The lighting was natural: "No strobe lights, nothing special, no tripods," she said. "It was hand-held."
Saniewska, who's never been formally trained, said she shot around 200 photos that day. After culling through the resulting images, choosing the photos with the best natural lighting, she presented Gaga with a CD of the pictures. The burgeoning singer was happy with them, and used some of the art for her own promotional materials.
Of course, there's no way Saniewska could have known that the young woman she photographed on a summer day in 2005 would become the international superstar she is today. As a matter of fact, Saniewska says that at first, when she saw her as Lady Gaga, she didn't recognize her, having been accustomed to her as a long-haired brunette waitress.
Even as Gaga's fame continued to grow, Saniewska kept those early photos to herself "out of respect," she said, particularly because she wasn't in touch with her.
And then, she just so happened to bump into her old colleague in 2010.
"I actually ran into her in the East Village, and she came up to me. She was already Lady Gaga, and we spoke a little, and she leaned on me, and she said in my ear, 'Did you know that this was my first photo shoot?' I had no idea," Saniewska said. "She was really excited. From that moment on I figured I could do something about it. And she's OK with it."
Saniewska hopes that those viewing the photos will get to see another side of Gaga, a peek at who the star was before the world knew her name.
But even with all the fame, to Saniewska, she's "still the same girl. The fact that we ran into each other and she came up to me -- she didn't say 'Hi' and run off. She stood there for 15 minutes, just chatting. She remembered my name, she remembered who I was, and she had so much to say. She's still the same person to me."
